AD Roadtrip Hokkaido Japan

Just back from two fantastic weeks of travelling and skiing on Hokkaido, Japan. A perfect way to start the season, get the legs started and motivating for a long ski touring season in The Lyngen alps. As a group of 5 we made a loop starting out of Furano and finishing with two day of skiing in Niseko, skiing for 9 days in total and 6 different resorts. All the resorts and places we visited unique in it´s own way and I can´t wait to get on my next flight, back to Hokkaido. With a packed guide season in The Lyngen alps coming up it looks like next trip to Hokkaido will be in January 2016, definitely worth waiting for…

Thanks to Vidar, Johan, Pelle and Håkan for good spirits all the way and a once in lifetime experience!

First day in Niseko and many lifts where closed du to heavy winds and snowfall. Vidar Kolstad having an early morning coffee in Moiwa and resting legs after 7 days of powder skiing Photo: Jimmy Halvardsson.

The food we had in Japan was just out of this world. Joking about being on a gourmet trip as much as a ski trip at times. Best meat and sushi on the planet? Photo: Jimmy Halvardsson

Myself in the lobby the last morning in Niseko. Lifts closed the day before and we got our longest continuous powder runs of the trip on the last day as the whole resort opened up in great weather. I used my Dynafit Huascarans for the whole trip and they where great! Photo: Per Jansson.

Ski with Ascent Descent in the Lyngen alps in 2015

The fall is a fantastic but short period in the Lyngen alps and we usually get some snow in the mountains already  in the end of September. This year we still have dry conditions as we speak but there has been some sprinkles of snow up high. The winter is knocking on the door and our mega long ski season is about to start. Please start planning your ski touring vacation to the Lyngen alps in time. The AscentDescent ski guiding season in the Lyngen alps starts in February and ends in June. Before that we normally go for an exotic ski trip somewhere and provide ski touring and ice climbing around Tromsø.

AscentDescent Ski Lodge end of ski season

May have been a great month in The Lyngen alps with fantastic skiing and this weekend we closed the ski season in Nord Lenangen. A very busy season and a lot of mixed conditions rounded of with a few days of skiing with friends, guides and groups. We went all out with boat rides, late nights and good times with a great crew from Gothenburg. Even having a few friends invited for the jacuzzi and dinner made this night feel special. Now it´s time for some more work in the wild mountains of  The Lyngen peninsula and we´re going camping. Thank´s for a great season everyone and a special thank´s to the family of Eikrem who have supported me and AscentDescent for 8 years now. Together we have created a cutting edge ski concept in the Lyngen alps that will last for years to come. Also a big hug to the guides who´ve been delivering safe and fun tours to our clients from all over the world. 7 Blåner and Dynafit have been supporting with outstanding equipment, clothing and world class service throughout the season and deserves a big hug for that!  Cheers/Jimmy Halvardsson

Happy days in The Lyngen Alps

May is here and this often means calmer weather, long days and good opportunities to reach the higher summits of the lyngen alps. The Ascent Descent Ski Lodge is fully booked until mid May but after that we have a few spots for the ones seeking good spring skiing in the lyngen alps. Lately we´ve been lucky to go a bit steeper with good snow and safe conditions. This season will stretch into June due to the last few snowfalls and colder temperatures. Skiing by boat with Ascent Descent “The Lyngen Mountain Guides ” will be possible until the 31st of May! Cheers / Jimmy Halvardsson
