Opening the doors here in Nord-Lenangen last sunday and so far it’s been a great start of the season. Lot’s of snow, pretty cold, nice people and good skiing. Every morning when waking up we have 20cm of fresh snow outside and today we had good visibility as well! Stepping carefully at the moment since we have avalanche danger out here but there is plenty of tours wich can be done anyway. With a packed program this winter and lot’s of new stuff going on we welcome all of you who have booked tours with us in the Lyngen Alps. See you soon! Jimmy
The season starts for real this week with an avalanche and skitouring lecture in Tromsø on wednesday and first ski touring clients on thursday. March often gives good snow conditions in The Lyngen Alps and fantastic Northern lights in the evenings.
There will be some highly qualified guides joining the AscentDescent guide team this season and we want to welcome both skiers and guides to Lyngen and Northern Norway.
… And yes, we have some dates left for the ones looking for a last minute trip so just call or mail for more info…
See you soon! / Jimmy, Petra and Max
Kvaløya outside tromsø is a great ski touring island with many peaks up to 1000 metres. Here we ski a nice slope close to our home in Tromso. Skier: Petra Halvardsson
Relaxing in Chamonix after a week of guiding around Chamonix and Monterosa. This time the plan was to spend a week together with the client, climbing fine alpine routes and ticking of a few 4000 ers. A good mix if you ask me since there is so much to choose from around here. Starting off with classics like Cosmiques Arete and classic rock in the Aguilles Rouges. Also managing five 4000 meter summits in a day in the Monterosa region. Back in Chamonix we finished off with a long easy climb in the Brevent area.
Even though it’s been some good times in the alps Im looking forward to my trip back home on Sunday !

Summertime here in Tromsø at the moment and so far we’ve had a pretty cold summer. The climbing is still good though and just done with two days of guiding on Kvaløya with an Australian guy. First day we whent trekking to the climbing hut below Baugen wich are the premier location for nice granit trad routes up here. Our goal was to climb the classic Zapffe arete but the weather didn’t improve so we got some nice Trekking done instead:) Day two was clear and cold and we went up to Lille Baugen wich is slightly lower but still has some really nice granite climbs in different grades. Starting at 700 to be sure that Ben reached his flight to Svalbard later that day… Thanks Ben for two nice days in Tromsø and Kvaløya!
For people interested in wxploring the area there is still some space in the calendar for some guiding until I leave for the alps in the beginning of august. So if you’re interested in trekking our climbing around Tromsø or Lyngen it’s just to send an e-mail!

After three great days of skiing with two finish clients a new storm seems to move in here in Lyngen. The storm will fill in all tracks from the easter holidays and untouched slopes are waiting for us… Until now the Lyngen season has been great with a lot of mixed weather as usual but still very good skiing. The skitouring season in lyngen continues until the end of may and there is still free dates from mid May for those interested!

Sometimes we use boats to reach good skiing. Skitouring from a beach in lyngen is something many people dream of. Photo: Jimmy Halvardsson
Just back after leaving Australian clients at the ferry after 5 days of skiiing together here in Lyngen. They where the third group of skiers visiting this year and it was fun to have people visiting even 34 hours flight time away! We’ve had a great mix of weather so far and that means rain, snow, sun, wind, warm and cold…
At the moment Andreas Fransson, Bjarne Sahlen and Morgan Sahlen (and more) is visiting in our camp in Nord-Lenangen (Northern Lyngen) and On saturday there is new people coming for skiing and we will get our touch of civilization picking them up!
