Rødbergtinden Couloir

This striking line in The Lyngen alps is easy to spot from the northern shore of Kjosen. In the new guidebook it’s called “the mother of all couloirs” and it´s really hard to miss since it’s a 800m straight couloir surrounded by rocky walls. Going with my friend Leif Holen from Tromsø we found easy conditions for boot packing but not so nice conditions for the skiing. The snow didn’t soften enough to be a nice ski but still, we did ski most of it except taking off skis for 10m traversing an icy funnel. The couloir is most of the time around 40 degrees and just get’s a few degrees steeper towards the top. Great to be up there after years of looking at it! “In the winter we bring client´s skiing the fantastic couloirs of Lyngen when the conditions are just right”

Springtime in Lyngen

The last two of weeks has been a mix of organizing a skitouring/downhill comp in Tromsø and guiding. Worked with security and route planning for the competition the last week of April followed by a week of ski touring in Lyngen. The Swedish outdoor association has been visiting for 5 years straight now and last week we managed to get lot’s of nice skiing in good weather. The newly opened Magic Mountain Lodge in Lyngseidet was our base for the last week and served us good food and warm atmosphere. Staying here right now as well with a new group of motivated skiers…

End of Lyngen season

Doing this winters last guiding day yesterday with six norwegian skiers from the Oslo area. We had skied the previous 3 days in Lyngen and now it was time to visit Ulstinden on the Tromso mainland. Great peak, with a nice view over Lyngen. A bit windy yesterday but with clear sky and good snow cover. The snow was sticking pretty bad to the skis on the way down but not slowing us down to much ; ) Now it’s time to move south for a little vacation. Starting the summer season on the 20th of june. Gonna keep updating about climbs etc meanwile. Enjoy summer!

Great Skiing on Stetinden in Lyngen

The last day on last weeks guiding in Lyngen was a tour on Stetinden 920m together with the German crew. After several days of snow and wind it was pretty exciting to see how the snowpack had changed. Some spots with huge deposit zones and other places, like on Stetinden, some powder on top of hardpack. The skiing was great and we finished the tour with a dinner on fiskecompaniet in Tromsø.

Kvasstinden

This week a great bunch of German skiers is visiting us in The Lyngen alps. Before the snowstorm started we skied the seldom visited Kvasstinden. Great summit, great people and a tour to remember for many reasons.
A shallow release in the top layer near the summit almost ended in a tragedy today. We all got away from this tour humbled by nature…

Ski The Lyngen alps in Norway

After three weeks of touring here in the lyngen alps the really good conditions finally arrived. Last week the “Willis bunch” from scotland got some mixed weather with some nice days in between the snow and rain showers. This week, with the swedish “friluftsfrämjandet”, have been blessed with some of the best snow I’ve skied and clear blue skies. Yesterday we did one of my absolute favourite tours out here in Nord-Lenangen. Ruossavarri 816m at the tip of the lyngen peninsula held some great powder slopes with views from another world. Arrived by boat from the east side we made a traverse of the peninsula and skied great powder. Two days ago we skied the ultra classics Storgalten 1219m and lille galten 836m in epic powder..
Welcome to our base in Nord Lenangen, one of the top locations in the Lyngen alps!

Powder all the way to the summit.
