First snow has arrived and as many times before it´s reminding us of the coming ski season in The Lyngen Alps. Autumn colors is also starting to show in the mountains and with the summits shining with fresh snow it´s hard to not be amazed by the fall here. Sometimes the ski season starts already in october but it all gets a little bit more predictable after christmas. Starting of in January with day tours ski touring and some travel abroad our peak season starts in late february. Get a group together and join us for the 2017 season in the Lyngen alps. Send a request from the contact page or give us a call.
We put one day with the boat in the package for each group to enjoy the fantastic skiing on the islands, scenery and if the sea is calm we might stop and try to catch some cod.

The Lyngen alps never stop to amaze and this year we got totally surprised by the super ending of the season. Warm season and not that much snow in general but in some strange way it just kept on delivering great skiing and often very stable conditions and weather. As usual we kept it running all the way to the end of May and the last weekend of may is starting to be one of the AscentDescent highlights.
People often asks when to come and every time it´s really hard to answer since every month of the ski season has it´s own charm and tweak. Next year we start booking ski weeks from the 18th of February running to season wrap up 25-28 May. Coming earlier to enjoy Northern Lights and ski touring seems to be a trend also as a combo trip. Please send an e-mail from the contact page to book a ski week for 2017.
Tip: In the summer we guide climbing and alpine trekking tours in the region of Tromsø and Lyngen.
Best regards

April has come in the lyngen alps and it´s been a great ski touring season so far. Pretty warm compared to what we normally expect but in return we´ve had some great and stable snow conditions for long periods of time. It´s been snowing recently here and it feels like winter again which is good for the rest of the season. We keep guiding from our base in northern Lyngen until end of May but after that ski weeks is over and we are back to guiding in the Tromsø and Lyngen area in general. Ski season naturally transforms into alpine and climbing season here and conditions are becoming great for the Jiekkevarri massif and climbing on Kvaløya.

When the sea is calm we sometimes try to catch some fish on the way back from skiing. Really nice to turn of the engine on the boat and just enjoy the nature for a moment also. Photo: Jimmy Halvardsson
We have just entered the high season in the Lyngen alps and great snow conditions arrived with it. Yesterday was a big powder experience when weather cleared after days of constant snow fall.
The AscentDescent ski lodge concept that we operate together with Lyngsalpan Cruise has also grown and we present high standard accommodation in Lyngen and ski packages for multiple groups the whole season. All groups have their own private chalet and guide and it looks like interested groups should start making plans for 2017 all ready. Fully booked this season, except for some weeks in late May, and it looks like the ski touring in The Lyngen alps is growing for every year.

Skiing down from this epic summit yesterday was one of the best we´ve had. Counting endless skiing on this mountain over a period of 12 years. Photo: Jimmy Halvardsson
Ok, word is out… A new chalet just popped up and was ready some weeks ago. Presenting full package ski weeks since many years now but with our new chalet and sauna department we´ve also managed to expand to meet increased popularity of the area and on our company and tours. Photo: Jimmy Halvardsson
First real snowfall came last week and for some days now we´ve had amazing autumn weather in the lyngen alps. At the moment we are improving the Ascent Descent Ski Lodge in Lyngen and our new cabin for the guides is getting ready for the winter. Please get in touch for our classic ski touring weeks for the 2016 season. We are also looking forward to our 10 year anniversary in the Lyngen alps this winter and to use our expanded lodging facilities.
These pictures where taken a few days ago on our way to the lodge…

Our “home mountain” Storgalten is truly one of the biggest ski touring classics up here. Skiing on all aspects with glaciers, couloirs, faces, valleys and all features you would like to play with on a pair of skis! Photo: Jimmy Halvardsson
