As IFMGA mountain guides we have to deal with avalanche safety on a daily basis. Mostly in wintertime when skiing but also in summer when climbing in high mountain terrain. Balancing between safety and fun all day long is tricky for everyone. We all travel in the mountains for different reasons but normaly we all want to have good fun and get down safely in the end of the day.
The winter season in the Lyngen alps is often very different from one year to the next. Coastal climate at times with rapid changes to long and cold clear spells often occurs in early winter and keeps avalanche conditions changing at the same time. The way of the skier is to always be alert to changing conditions and adapt accordingly to them.
We run avalanche courses on private requests and have a few “open” courses during the early season. Tip! Check the event calendar for 2018 when the season is getting closer.
